Should I Take Supplements In Menopause?

HotPause Health Medical Advisor and Registered Dietitian, Val Schonberg, explains why she does not typically recommend supplements in perimenopause and menopause. While there is strong evidence supporting both safety and efficacy for certain supplements, there are many supplement that are not backed by strong clinical evidence for efficacy.

However, if someone has low bone density, Vitamin D and Calcium might be appropriate. If cardiovascular health is a concern, someone might explore using a fiber supplement and an Omega-3 supplement, such as fish oil.

It is very important to discuss what supplements you are taking with your provider, especially if you are taking medication. Combining dietary supplements and medications can have dangerous and even life-threatening effects.
